15th of February 2010

After the Valentine's Day rush of the past weekend, things are slowly getting back to normality again. The hotel was fully booked, so somewhere it's a big indication to us that romance is definitely not something from the past. It's here and it is florishing. Don't we all love having a little Cupid flying around and looking after us?

With Carnival and Valentine over, we are looking forward to our next events. Upcoming the Public Holiday of St. Josef's on the 19th of March, which promises another long weekend and then our Freedom Day on the 31st of March which is practically running over into Easter Friday and the Easter Weekend this year. Wow, two long weekends ahead!

Also, for those who are thinking of maybe doing some last minute booking, have a look at our new special offers. We still have a few rooms left to sell for the coming days and weeks, so we put together a nicer deal for you than we already had. Check it out on http://www.seabankhotel.com/seabank/content.aspx?id=40863 ....

Have a lovely week you all,

It's been very busy times at the hotel with Christmas and New Year's coming and going and the managers of the hotel polishing up their skills during an almost two week training with RIU at RIU Cala Millor in Mallorca, Spain. Most of us have been on a well deserved break, while others ended up being sick for while. All part of the winter :o) ...

Check out our two new pages; one with our Valentine's offer for the 14th of February and another page where we will keep you updated with all the information as in regards to the World Cup Football taking place in June. It's still early days, but eventually the information will become more elaborate and share with you all that will be happening during said period!

30th of November 2009

It gives us great pleasure to announce that our team of chefs has competed in this year’s Malta Cookery Championships 2009 held in November and managed to win prestigious awards.

Under the guidance of our Head Chef, Oliver Grech, 3 of our Commis chefs and 2 Seniors competed for this event. Oliver is a veteran in these competitions, having won various awards himself including the prestigious Malta Chef of the Year in 2000 and 4th in Europe Gultieri Marchiesi Award in 2001. This time, instead of competing, he committed himself to take up a team from his brigade at the Riu Seabank, a first for this hotel.

It was an exciting experience for the kitchen team. For the juniors, it was the first time entering such for such an event. They all trained very hard, perfecting their dishes and making sure they would rise to the occasion when preparing their creations in front of the judges. They were the only group belonging to a four star hotel as all the other teams came from the best 5 star hotels in Malta.

In chronological order, this is how it went down:

Silver Medal:                                Salome Aquilina - Pasta Dish - Juniors
Silver Medal:                                Jonathan Vassallo - Fish Dish - Seniors
Silver Medal:                                Chris Gauci - Lamb Dish - Juniors
Silver Medal:                                Robert Borg - Duck Dish - Juniors
Silver Medal & Best in Class:   Godfrey Bezzina - Maltese Dish – Seniors

On behalf of the Directors and Management of the Hotel RIU Seabank, we would like to thank all those who competed for taking on this challenge with great dedication and achieving well-deserved awards. Besides doing it for themselves, they have held high the RIU Seabank name amongst the crème de la crème of Maltese Hotels. We would also like to thank Oliver, for believing in his team, giving them the opportunity and preparing them extremely well to rise to this amazing challenge.

Tom Jones came, played to a mezmerized crowd and left again. It is great to see top acts like this in Malta and we are proud to say that each and every single one of them has come to the conclusion that they regret not coming to our island earlier. They always have a great time and are amazed by the culture we offer. Let alone the support they get from us Maltese!!!!

HOWEVER; This past weekend we also had some entertainment of a different level: STAND UP COMEDY! Roberta and David from Laugh Out Loud Productions organised another stellar evening with a fabulous line up; Andre Vincent, Craig Campbell and Carl Donnelly put their best foot forward infront of the mainly Maltese crowds. During the performances Craig and Carl intergrated their first time experiences being in this country, experiences gathered over the past few days. It just doesn't cease to amaze me how malta-virgins look at our Island with completely different eyes and see things we don't even notice. Results - hilarious! LOL Productions are planning to organise another event this winter. Dates are not set yet, but keep an eye on our News Section and in due course we will feature the details. Anticipated dates may be end February or beginning of March 2010. More details www.laughoutloud.com.mt .

The once-a-year event happened yesterday..... and what an event it was. At the end of the summer season, we at the RIU Seabank Hotel insist of organising a party for our tour operators and agents. Since, due to circumstances, we did not manage to do so last year, we said we would do one with a bit more 'umpf'. Enter Malta's best rock band of the moment 'Eve Ransom'. We attracted Brendan and his guys to move away from the boring 'drinks and food' event always organised for the tour operator colleagues and rock the place! Needless to say that the ones that travelled to Mellieha had a great time. Ken from Luxair won a lovely 1-week All Inclusive stay at a RIU hotel in Tunisia whilst others could win weekend breaks, sunday lunches and other gifts. Below some pictures of the event;

Mamma Mia! How times flies when you are busy. One would say that we never heard the word 'recession' here. Many things have happened in the mean time, however the colleagues are still the same. First we had our Host Manager Jean who celebrated another year older, however then age started showing straight away. He thought it would be really cool to have 3 weeks extra holidays this year and had a bit of a 'small accident' with his back. He is back in full glory now and full of energy.

The time of the year is coming round where the colleagues are going on leave and Joanne and Pierre from the Sales Department had some time off. Pierre did some do-it-yourself orders by the wife whilst Joanne spent it with her little daughter Emilie. Our little Kati, who is doing her internship in this crazy department called Sales and Reservations was holding the fort tightly, and reigns it will full precision. We are still working on her handwriting though!

30th September 2009

Modern technology is catching up even with us at the Hotel RIU Seabank. We have decided to start a little blog so that we can keep you informed about what we do (or don't do!) behind the scenes. In time we will introduce a number of our colleagues, tell you al about the funny occurances happening, the VIP's staying and the events we do!

Soon you will also be able to follow us full force on Facebook and Twitter. It is all in beginning stages, so hey, be patient with us! Unlike all the young children in the world, getting adapted is causing me and my colleagues just as much headaches as it give you.

Stay tuned - more to come in the coming days!!
